One of the first investments that legitimises your business is your website. But with so many variables potentially involved, how much does a website cost?
Website pricing in Ireland can range from €1,000 to €10,000, depending on different factors.
In the post I break down these possible variables and help you get to grips with website pricing so you can make the best decision you can for your business.

How much does a website actually cost?
The cost of your website will all depend on your requirements. How complex or detailed do you need it to be? Will a simple and straightforward website help you achieve your goals?
There are some costs that you should always expect when it comes to your website and others that will depend on your type of business and the level you’re at.

Website costs to expect:
Domain Name
- eg. €30 a year
The actual web address of your website will incur an annual fee.
Website Hosting
- eg. €180 a year
Where your website lives or is hosted online will incur an annual fee. Make sure to choose a good quality provider like Siteground.com.
Third-party apps
- eg. €12 a month
If you want to use something like Calendly to book meetings or Mailchimp to collect emails you can stick to the free versions but you might find the premium versions give you all the functions you need.
On-going website maintenance
- eg. €347 a year
Website maintenance packages keep your website glitch-free and secure and give you on-going access to your web designer for ad hoc support.

Other factors that will affect website price:
Brand Positioning & Messaging
- eg. €500 for a 1 hour session with a positioning expert
What do you do and who do you do it for? What’s your unique position in the marketplace? Having clear answers to these questions will help inform what kind of website you need to reach your business goals as your audience and competitors will be clearly defined.
Website Copywriting
- eg. €450 for a website copy audit by Copy Kate
Once you know your positioning and messaging really well it’s time to make sure it is communicated really well through your website copy. This is a job that many business-owners can underestimate. It takes a lot of work to get right and your web designer can’t do their job without it. I recommend asking if your web designer provides a website copy template for you to fill out so you’re not starting the project by staring at a blank page.
Then to make sure your chosen words will actually turn your website viewers into clients, I recommend getting a website copy audit done by Copy Kate. She will give you her expert tips and highlight what is and isn’t working about your copy so you can fix it before you hand it over to your web designer.
You can also opt for full custom website copywriting with someone like Kate.
Professional Photography
- eg. €500 for a photoshoot with Kirsty Lyons
To make your website memorable and so people know that there’s a real human behind your brand, there’s no beating professional photography. Once you get your photos done you can also use them on social media, in proposals and any marketing materials you might need for your business.

Branding Design
- eg. starts from €2,000
Investing in your branding design before you start your website will make sure that your website has a unique visual look and feel that encapsulates your brilliance and communicates it to the right people.
Website Functions & Capabilities
- Price addition depends on functions
If the website you require needs functions that require non-standard code or a premium plugin set-up, this will cost more. The price will depend on the complexity and time it takes to get these functions in place.
Off-Page SEO
- eg. €500 a month with an SEO specialist
The web designer you choose to work with should include basic on-page SEO in the package they offer you. If you would like more SEO results than on-page work can provide you can work with an SEO specialist for the other aspects that will boost your website’s ranking.
