I’m The Client Now Part 3: The Day of the Brand Photoshoot

March 13, 2026
–

As part of refreshing my own brand and website, I recently did something I’ve advised my clients to do for years…

I booked a professional brand photoshoot.

For a long time I had been using photos I had taken myself with a camera, tripod and self-timer. They did the job when I was starting out, but they no longer reflected the level of my business or the type of clients I want to attract.

So I decided it was time to invest in professional brand photography with Kirsty Lyons.

In this post I’m bringing you behind the scenes of the photoshoot day so you can see what the experience actually looks like.

Arriving at the Photoshoot Location

The day started with going to the photoshoot location with Kirsty and preparing to work through the shot list we had planned in advance.

Creating a shot list beforehand made a huge difference. It meant we both knew exactly what types of photos we wanted to capture for my website and marketing.

This included a mix of:

  • Professional headshots
  • Photos that will work on my website pages
  • Lifestyle images that feel natural and relaxed
  • Behind-the-scenes style images for social media

Having this structure meant the day felt organised but still relaxed.

Working Through the Shot List

Once we started shooting, the day flowed between different setups.

We would spend some time in one location, capture a range of photos then move on to the next setup.

Throughout the day we also:

  • Changed outfits to create variety
  • Tried different poses and angles
  • Moved to different spots around the location
  • Reviewed our shot list to see what was still needed

One thing I found really interesting was noticing which poses felt natural and which ones didn’t.

Sometimes a pose can feel awkward, but simply moving to a different location or adjusting slightly can suddenly make the photo feel far more comfortable and natural.

Kirsty was brilliant at directing. She guided me through the poses and helped make sure we captured images that felt natural to me.

A Very Hot Day

We were lucky with the weather, it was one of the hottest days of the year.

That meant the light was absolutely beautiful for the photos, but by the end of the day we were both completely roasting.

Even with the heat, the day was such a great experience and we managed to capture everything on our shot list and more.

What Happens After the Photoshoot

Once the photoshoot finished, the next step in the process moved back to Kirsty.

Here’s what happens next:

  • Kirsty reviews all of the photos taken during the shoot
  • She creates a gallery of the best images
  • I receive the gallery and choose my final favourites
  • Kirsty then professionally edits those selected images

The edited images will then become the final brand photos I can use across my website and marketing.

Why Professional Brand Photos Matter

From the small previews I saw on the day, the photos already looked exactly like what I wanted for my brand.

And that’s the real value of professional brand photography.

When someone lands on your website or looks you up online, your photos are part of the first impression they form about your business.

Professional brand photos help you:

  • Build trust instantly
  • Show the level of professionalism you operate at
  • Create a consistent visual presence across your website and marketing
  • Present your brand in a way that reflects where your business is now

Next in the Series

This photoshoot is just one step in my full brand and website refresh.

Next up, I’ll be sharing more of the process as I start incorporating these new photos into the design of my new website.

Stay tuned for the next update in the “I’m the Client Now” series.
